Mercedes-Benz won two awards from Off Road Magazine
The readers of "Off Road" magazine for the third time, the Mercedes-Benz Unimog cross-country voted as a vehicle of the year in the "Special Vehicles" category. The Unimog will receive the title "2007 SUV of the year-Special vehicles of category" after the October edition of the popular four-wheel-drive magazine invited Munich readers to vote for a selection of off-road vehicles in eight categories.
The trophy has been in the form of an obelisk Off Road presented during a special gala evening in Munich's "Das Schloss" theater marquee. 56,000 Readers have been formed to select the winners nominated from among the 80 vehicles by the organizer. Mercedes-Benz models won in two categories: the Unimog was the Top-scoring model among the Special Vehicles obtaining 59% of the readers' poll. The Mercedes G-Class won the "Classics".

The "Special Vehicles" category includes cross-country vehicles used for the transportation of loads and cargo in remote areas or as a basis for specific missions of the fire, the military and for expeditions. The Unimog was the winner in this category. Its features include excellent portal axles they give an excellent off-road capability, combined its extreme torsional flexibility with an additional amount of toughness and strength to win the whole package complete.
Martin C. Klein, director of Sales & Marketing Division of Special Vehicles of DaimlerChrysler AG received the award of Off Road's Florian Pillau. Actually, this was not the first time that the Unimog was honored in 1994 it was SUVs of the year.
The range of Unimog was produced in Wörth plant since 2002, the high-Unimog U 3000 to U 5000 series are ideal for difficult terrain operations, that are far away from roads and paths.
